How is Vietnam’s economy structured?
Vietnam’s economy is broadly diversified and includes agriculture, industry, and a rapidly growing services sector, which has become the country’s largest employer.
While agriculture remains important and is strongly focused on exports such as rice, coffee and other agricultural products, industrial production is becoming increasingly significant.
Particularly strong growth has been recorded in electronics manufacturing, textile production, machinery processing, vehicle manufacturing and other export-oriented industries.
At the same time, the services sector continues to expand and includes tourism, trade, transportation, financial services and digital services. Vietnam benefits from strong export performance, integration into global supply chains and its role as one of Southeast Asia’s leading manufacturing locations.
What business opportunities does Vietnam offer?
Vietnam offers opportunities in both industrial and consumer-oriented sectors. Its young and growing population, combined with competitive labor and production costs, makes the country particularly attractive for foreign investors.
Vietnam continues to attract investment in electronics manufacturing, machinery processing and other export-oriented industries, creating opportunities in sales, sourcing and production.
A key competitive advantage is Vietnam’s extensive network of free trade agreements. By early 2026, the country had concluded or negotiated around 20 FTAs, of which 16 were already in force, further strengthening its integration into the global economy.
In addition to ASEAN membership, these agreements include major frameworks such as the EVFTA, CPTPP, and RCEP, all of which facilitate market access, reduce trade barriers and strengthen Vietnam’s position as a production and export hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
What are the economic relations with Bavaria and Germany?
Germany has maintained close economic relations with Vietnam for many years and is among the country’s most important European trading partners. Vietnam is also one of Bavaria’s most significant trading partners in Southeast Asia.
Bavarian companies primarily export machinery, vehicles, chemical products, electrical engineering equipment and industrial machinery to Vietnam. In return, Bavaria imports electronics, textiles and agricultural products from Vietnam.
More than 70 Bavarian companies have invested in Vietnam.
„Over the past years, Vietnam has developed into one of the most dynamic business locations in Southeast Asia. Thanks to stable growth, a young and skilled workforce and an extensive network of free trade agreements, the country offers outstanding opportunities for Bavarian companies — both as a production location and as a sales market.“
