How is Türkiye’s economy structured?
Türkiye is among the most industrialized countries in the region and one of the most important trading partners of Western economies. With a comparatively young and consumption-oriented population, the country benefits from a stable and growing domestic market.
The Turkish economy is broadly diversified. The services sector, particularly tourism, is a major source of foreign currency earnings. Other key industries include automotive manufacturing and supplier industries, mechanical engineering, textiles and apparel, as well as agriculture, which continues to employ a significant share of the population.
Istanbul is the country’s economic center and the leading location for trade, innovation and business investment. In addition, other metropolitan regions have developed sector-specific strengths, particularly in industry, agriculture and tourism.
What business opportunities does Türkiye offer?
Türkiye offers attractive business opportunities as a manufacturing base, sourcing location and sales market, benefiting from its strategic position between Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The country’s well-established and internationally integrated automotive industry is increasingly focusing on new technologies and remains an important customer for automotive components, machinery and equipment from Bavaria and Germany. Many multinational companies choose Türkiye as a production and export hub.
The energy sector is also gaining importance. The expansion of renewable energy is being actively promoted, while energy efficiency is receiving growing attention from public authorities. These developments create attractive opportunities for Bavarian technology providers.
Furthermore, Türkiye continues to strengthen its role as a regional hub for international supply chains and value creation networks. The existing Customs Union with the European Union further facilitates trade with the European Single Market.
What are the economic relations with Bavaria and Germany?
Germany remains Türkiye’s most important trading partner. Türkiye is also among Bavaria’s key trading partners and plays a significant role in the Free State’s foreign trade.
Bavarian companies primarily export vehicles, automotive components, machinery and chemical products. Imports from Türkiye include textiles, vehicles, food products and machinery.
Since 2010, the Bavarian Economic Representation in Istanbul has been supporting the expansion of economic relations between Bavaria and Türkiye.
