Poland has been a member of the European Union since 2004 and has the strongest economy among the countries that joined the EU in the 2004 enlargement round. The country has enjoyed stable development and sustained economic growth for many years. Poland’s economic growth consistently exceeds the EU average. The national currency is the zloty (PLN).

How is Poland’s economy structured?
Poland has the sixth-largest population among EU member states. Since joining the European Union, the country’s economy has grown continuously, even during the global financial crisis. Strong growth is expected to continue in the coming years, creating favorable opportunities for Bavarian products and services. As a result, Poland remains a highly attractive market for the Bavarian economy.
What business opportunities does Poland offer?
Poland is an attractive market for Bavarian companies across a wide range of industries. Demand for German machinery and equipment remains strong, with every fourth machine imported into Poland originating from Germany. Equipment for metal production as well as plastics and wood processing plays a particularly important role. Construction machinery, machinery for the food industry and equipment for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries are also in high demand. Promising opportunities also exist in the automotive industry, electrical engineering, chemicals and the food sector. Key imports from Germany furthermore include technologies related to renewable energies, energy efficiency, waste management and medical technology.
In addition, Poland is the largest beneficiary of EU cohesion policy, receiving around one fifth of all EU cohesion funds. This creates further opportunities for Bavarian companies.

Economic relations between Bavaria and Poland have developed very dynamically in recent years. Poland ranks fifth among Bavaria’s trading partners worldwide.
