How is Mexico’s economy structured?
Mexico has a broadly diversified and export-oriented economy. The country is one of the leading industrial locations in the Americas and is particularly strong in manufacturing.
Manufacturing contributes around 30% of gross domestic product and is especially prominent in sectors such as automotive, household appliances, steel, construction and mechanical engineering.
In terms of employment, trade is one of the most important sectors, accounting for approximately 20% of jobs.
In addition, the energy, electronics, information technology and business services sectors are experiencing rapid growth.
Innovation, technology and the digital economy (including start-ups) provide numerous opportunities for cooperation and joint activities between Bavaria and Mexico.
What business opportunities does Mexico offer?
Business opportunities arise in particular from Mexico’s role as a manufacturing and industrial hub within North America, as well as from its close economic integration with the United States and Canada.
Potential areas of cooperation include industrial collaboration, mechanical and plant engineering, technology-based supplier industries, as well as infrastructure and energy projects. Additional location advantages stem from Mexico’s strategic geographic position, its well-developed sustainable infrastructure and its participation in international free trade agreements.
As a neighboring country of the United States, Mexico is among the primary beneficiaries of the global trend toward production relocation, particularly through the USMCA free trade area with the United States and Canada. German companies are also increasing their investments in the country. Trade relations with the European Union are based on the Global Agreement between the EU and Mexico.
What are the economic relations with Bavaria and Germany?
After the United States, Mexico is Bavaria’s second-largest trading partner on the American continent. The country is an important sales market and investment destination for Bavarian companies.
Around 750 Bavarian companies are active in Mexico, particularly in the fields of manufacturing, sales and trade.
In addition to economic ties, close cooperation exists between Bavaria and Mexican regions, accompanied by intensive exchange in science and research.
