Thanks to its favorable geographic location and well-developed transport infrastructure, Croatia is ideally positioned as a logistics hub and gateway to Central and Eastern Europe, as well as to Mediterranean markets via the Adriatic Sea. Additional advantages include a motivated and well-qualified workforce, as well as strong economic, historical and cultural ties to Germany and the German-speaking region.
Against the backdrop of substantial EU structural funding available since Croatia’s accession to the European Union, numerous opportunities for cooperation exist, particularly in environmental technologies (waste management, water supply and wastewater treatment), energy (including renewable energy and energy efficiency), infrastructure (railways, ports and telecommunications), tourism, and the agri-food sector. As a sourcing market, Croatia also offers attractive opportunities in mechanical engineering, metal processing, electrical engineering, the chemical industry, and automotive components.
What are the economic relations with Bavaria and Germany?
Croatia and Bavaria maintain close political, economic and cultural ties. This strong relationship is reinforced by Croatia’s historical and cultural roots within Central Europe. The large Croatian community living in Bavaria, as well as the many Bavarian tourists who visit Croatia every year, further strengthen bilateral relations.
Germany is Croatia’s second most important trading partner, and Bavaria accounts for a significant share of this relationship. Bavarian exports to Croatia have increased considerably in recent years, as have imports of Croatian goods into Bavaria, reflecting the growing intensity of bilateral trade.
