Tourism is a key economic factor for Bavaria. It conveys identity and is central to employment and business, serves as an advertising medium and represents a multi-disciplinary sector with diverse cultural and social interrelations. In 2016, Bavaria has achieved a new historical record for visitors and overnight stays: more than 35.4 million guests visited Bavaria, with some 90.8 million overnight stays. This means that Bavaria is among the leading year-round destinations in Europe and a front-runner as a major tourism destination in Germany.
